Holiday planning

Yesterday we were busy planning our upcoming holiday. There are so many places to go, but too little time and money to travel.

First idea – as I told you yesterday – was to fly to Finland and explore Helsinki for a few days and then rent a car and drive to the Northernmost point of Continental Europe: Nordkapp. We even found a pretty cheap flight. Or actually to flights. One goes from Warsaw Chopin Airport to Oslo, then back to Poznan and from Poznan it goes to Helsinki. The advantage of this flight is that we would have the opportunity to spend a night in Oslo – the plan lands around 10pm and the other takes off 1pm the next day – but it would mean we have to pay one extra night, and we would spend at least 7 hours of the 12-13hours sleeping…
The next idea was to skip the Oslo part, and take a train to Poznan and fly from there to Helsinki, but then we realized how freaking expensive those accommodations are, and how expensive the gas is, and when I add up everything that small trip would cost us somewhere around 1,000 Euro (or even more) which is insane! – Or maybe not that insane just simply too much for our Central European students’ heart.
So, the third idea is to take a train from Warsaw to Torun, from there we’d go to Gdansk and do the Northern Poland trip.
I’m a bit disappointed, because I really wanted to go to Finland and see the Northern light, but I guess I have to wait a little bit more for that. And I’m also not terribly happy to take a train especially now during the pandemic. Taking a train is a much greener option than driving, and costs almost half compared to driving, but the chance of getting infected is also much higher. What do you think should we risk it or play safe while producing extra CO2?

After hours of planning and discussing we decided to go for a walk. A few days – or maybe weeks – ago I went to the beach near the National Stadium with my brother, because some website he read claimed that beach to have the best skyline of Warsaw. Well, I wasn’t sure than and I’m still not sure if I agree, but I though I should show Sara the beach, because it’s a really nice place – unfortunately I haven’t taken any pictures to show you the place :/ but next time we go there I’ll show you pictures don’t worry.

When we got home, we were pretty exhausted, so I thought I’ll sleepy like a baby, but somehow, I was still up and watching NASCAR at 2am. Sometimes it’s pretty hard to sleep here… police drive around with their siren on, taxi drivers fall asleep on their horn for no good reason, and someone starts a construction every night between 10pm and 5am. I don’t understand why it is necessary to use a siren or honk at 2am. No one is on the road damn it!

Let’s hope tonight’s sleep will be better and see y’all tomorrow!

Take care

Almos
