Another Wonderful Day AT Kampinos National Park

Yesterday was the first day of Christmas, and what better way to celebrate it than a nice Christmas-hike?! We planned a trip yesterday evening about going to the Kampinos National Park!

It has snowed all day the day before yesterday, however yesterday a strong cold front hit the Warsaw area which resulted a daily maximum temperature of -6°C — and that -6C’s real feel was less than -10°C! — however it also resulted a beautiful clear sky with a visibility of 13-ish km! So it was an incredibly nice day and we simply couldn’t pass on the opportunity to get out of our apartment and enjoy the sunshine! Finally! I started counting the day I saw the blue sky above the Platinum Towers and yesterday was the second day since November? Okay, maybe only since middle of November/early December, but I hope you are picking up what I’m putting down.

We weren’t sure how long our trip was going to be — by this I mean I was wanting an all day trip, Sari was rather up to a 10 minutes walk in the cold; I’ll repeat myself it felt like it was -10°C out there! — so we packed a few sandwiches, cooked a nice hot tea, grabbed the snow chains and hit the road! We could’ve taken the big freeway, but I felt more like a nice country road instead.

All the streets were totally empty, the 2 times 4 lane Rondo Dasinskiego which is full everyday of the week had only one other car on it. The whole city was a ghost town around 1100. By the time we got to the suburbs there were a few cars on the roads, but nowhere near to the average day traffic. When we got to the parking lot we saw a few cars, hikers, and families having a lunch on the benches.

At the parking lot there was a map with a full 1.5 km loop which seemed to be the way to go, given the fact Sari started shaking from the cold as soon as her feet touched the ground. It was really just a short walk, however it was not without excitement! We learned a bit about wolves yesterday, how you can tell from a footprint wether it’s a dog’s footprint or a wolf’s, so we were hunting footprints all day and what do you know?! We found some footprints that were suspiciously straight forward, and lead to the small river near the trail. We followed the prints to the bank, assuming it was only a dog without a leash going to drink, but no! The footprints didn’t stop there they crossed the semi-frozen river on the ice and a fallen tree! What kinda dog would do that?! We were 100% positive those prints belonged to a wolf! How awesome is that?! Last time we were at Kampinos National Park we saw moose now we saw wolf footprints… That place is simply amazing!

After the short trip we were headed back home, to finish the day before yesterday’s chicken paprika. It was just amazing as before! I love that food!

We closed our day with watching the Grinch… Another Christmas move I don’t really like… But it’s okay to watch it once a year I guess.

I believe I got to the end of yesterday, I hope you also had an amazing day!

Take care of yourself and have a Merry Christmas!
