Pijana Wiśnia

So yesterday we went ice-skating! Sorry I got it wrong. Yesterday we went to an ice-skating ring! Haha close enough, eh?

The plan was to meet up with Ola and hit the ice, however non of us really felt that dedicated to fall, so we agreed on we should rather have a walk with a nice warm drink.

We went to our new-old place right next to the Palace of Culture and Sciences called Pijana Wiśnia. That place’s best seller — or actually I believe the only thing they sell — is an Ukrainian liquourish thing that contains significantly less alcohol than pálinka, but it can kick in in a Mike Tyson kinda way. The drink has two settings, one is the summer mode, when you drink it cold, and the other is the winter mode which means you get the drink hot — similar to hot wine I guess. Although the temperature gauge showed -4°C the weather forecast thingy on my phone told us it felt like -9°C, and I believe it was right. It was pretty damn cold. So it was no question we bought the hot version of the drink. This way at least the few first sips were nice and hot. Then it got nice and warm, and by the end of the glass it was just niceish and cold.

Pijana Wiśnia’s drink right next to the Palace of Culture and Sciences — this pic was supposed to be a boomerang, hence the terrible quality; sorry.

When we got our drinks we started a walk around the Palace of Culture and Sciences. I suppose we were half way thru the loop when we saw a big icy thing. It was an ice-skating ring! If the fact that the thing was right under, exactly in the footsteps of the Places of Culture and Sciences wasn’t enough, it was FREE! If you have your own shoes you can use the ring for as long as you wish as many times a day or week as you please free of charge! How amazing is that?! Brilliant is what it is! Absolutely brilliant.

We were about to leave the ice-skating ring when I spied with my little eye something starts with ‘L’ and ends with’ostcovidcertification’ or vaccination proof call it whatever you want to. I picked it up from the ground and took it to the place where you can rent skates. I asked the assistant if he spoke any English, he did not, I asked a random guy passing by to tell the assistant to look after the certification until its owner would show up. Dude was extremely helpful told the assistant everything, but the problem when I was trying to tell the assistant about the certification wasn’t the language barrier, it was simply the ignorance of the assistant. So the paper ended the day on the ground waiting for its owner.

After we finished our round trip we were headed home into the warm. We promised ourselves we were going to have a steaming hot shower as soon as we get home. And we did. It was really great. I think yesterday night was a great teaser of the winter in Warsaw, and I’m really curious how the honest winter will feel like.

Till then I believe I will have to write a few blogs, so till then take care,

Almos
