Saying Goodbye
Yesterday was a sit-home-day. Or wait, actually not. It was almost a sit-home-day. Today’s blog actually starts at yesterday 0115. When our friends wanted to buy a train ticket home, but the online thingy where they wanted to buy the ticket decided not to work.
So, me and Mate
walked to the main train station in Warsaw to find out ‘what’s the haps on the
craps.’ Or in our case what’s the haps on the station.
We entered the station from a side entrance which turned out to be a poor decision,
because we couldn’t find the ground floor from there. What we did find was a McDonalds,
so we asked those guys for directions. They helped quite a lot, we managed to
find the place in no time. The lady who sells the tickets didn’t speak too much
English, but she was kind and tried to be helpful. However, the thing that wasn’t
kind was the price she said. 500 zloty for a ticket to Budapest. 500. And they
would’ve had to buy two! If we drove from Warsaw to Pécs and then back to
Warsaw the gas – or actually diesel – would have cost less than 800 zloty!
Insane!
So, we told the lady that we need to call the Congress… After a short
discussion we agreed on 1000 zloty on a train ticket was bullshit, so we needed
to find another solution. Here came into picture the thing called Flixbus. They
booked two places for today 0900 – and then we went to sleep.
We got up in the
morning at 0800, they did the last leg of the packing, then we bought some
water for their trip, and headed to the car. The bust was leaving from Warsaw
West, which is like a bus and train station at the same time, however it would’ve
been almost impossible to get to the place by public transport. I really wished
there was another way, because this way we couldn’t do the traditional goodbye
ritual without paying for parking – thinking back we could’ve paid for parking…
Anyways, saying
goodbye was a hard moment, however it’s just started snowing as they got outta
the car, which made the whole thing a bit better. I wish they could’ve stayed
more. It was really fun having them around.
There’s another thing I kinda regret, for many reasons, is that we didn’t go
home with them. It would’ve cost them the same, but it would’ve cost us half to
get home. Why would I wanna go home you might ask. Well, there are several
reasons, for instance our 2nd vaccine is 6 months old so it would be
great to have another shot in the arm; another reason is my dad’s birthday is
coming soon, it would’ve been nice to be there… and it would’ve been an amazing
road trip home! GPS says 13 ish hours, with the snowy conditions in the Tatras,
and our ecofriendly speeds it would’ve been easily a 15 hours’ drive or 16. The
best and cheapest option to go home would’ve been setting off from Warsaw at
midnight, drive to Katowice, between these two cities you have free secured freeway
– I guess now I know why it is called freeway – which is far the best option
for night driving. we would’ve arrived to Katowice around 0400, and another 1.5
hours till Zywiec where we would’ve run out of freeway, and at the point it
would be still 2 hours till sunrise. Bummer, I’ve fucked up my calculation. So,
we would’ve set off from Warsaw around 0200 then, got to Katowice around 0600,
then to Zywiec at 0730, from there it would’ve been bright for 8.5 hours, and
guess what would take us 8 ish hours?! Driving from Zywiec to Pécs is exactly 8
hours and 11 minutes 43 seconds. Means we would’ve arrived home in daylight.
Perfect, eh? It would’ve been great, but maybe next time.
Back to our day,
it was snowing all daylong! It was beautiful! Unfortunately, it melted on the
ground, but the snow fall was amazing.
My class was okay, nothing special, I have no idea how hard the exam’s gonna
be, but I definitely don’t feel like the class would prepare me for the exam, nor
it would be obvious that I have to study for it… Oh, and we've out up some new light in our window!
I know moisture on our window is a constant problem... But you should concantrate on the lights! |
That was our
yesterday, a semi-home-sitting-day is the correct term I believe.
Thank you for reading,
and have a good day,
Take care,
Almos
