Exploring Warsaw!
So yesterday was the first day of our challenge! To make sure I would have a great start and decent points I went on a walk.
When I got up I was looking all over the map on my phone, trying to find a place in Warsaw. A place that I’ve never been to, a place that’s far enough so I’d hit a decent mileage. Soon I found a place; a park called Szczesliwicki Park. It looked nice and big on the map, with a tiny hill in the middle of it so I thought hell yeah that’s the place I need to be!
After a quick breakfast I hit the road. It was around an hour walk from our apartment, mostly South. I put my earphones in and listened to my favorite podcasts Fake Doctors Real Friends. They had a great episode on, it was funny, informative, and gave me all the positive vibes that was needed. The route was pretty simple, I think I made maximum 7 turns the whole trip, but when I eventually got to my destination I had to check the map if I was at the right place. When I first saw the park I saw some bushes. And that was okay, all parks have bushes. But when I got closer I saw the hill. And I saw something that looked like a ski elevator. At this point I was checking the map, I thought I’ve accidentally ended up in the Carpathian Mountains.
First I was astonished by the scenery, but then I found it quite funny. These Polish people found one hill in the whole area of Warsaw and they’ve turned it in to a ski slope. It’s funny, but also smart actually. Why would you make your people travel 6-8 hours to the nearest ski resort when they could just get on a bus and travel something like 30 minutes? Although ski slopes are not an environment friendly things I think it’s actually better — for the environment as well, as for the people — to have one closer to you, so you would spend less time traveling and turning fuel into CO2. While I was philosophizing I got to the entrance of the ski complex. I was a guy walking in ski boots and I asked him about the place. He told me anyone can come here to ski there’s opportunity for renting gears and etc. At this point I realized I’m anybody! I could also come here to ski! I could teach Sari to ski here! How could would that be? I’m not promising anything, but I see a small chance of one of the future blogs might come to you from Szczesnkiwhatever park again! I would love to make that happen!
I walked a nice circle in the park, when suddenly something dropped on my face. First I thought damn it a maniacal bird just shitted on my face! But then I looked around and I saw no bird, just white dust falling from the clouds. It was snowing! I got so excited! I love a nice snow fall/storm! I walked another lap in the park enjoying the snowfall before I was headed home. It was almost already lunch time when I got sorta drenched, so I had no choice but to go home.
On my way home I was listening to my podcast again, and my walk was pretty uneventful until one of the last intersections. It was a roundabout with traffic lights in it. I usually wait a bit further away from the road till I see the lights change and when it’s green — of course — I cross. Besides I think this way I inhale less CO2 and PPMs I also have a better view of the traffic — which came handy yesterday. It was me and a girl waiting for the lights to turn green. I was further back she was right next to the lights. When they turned green we both started walking, but it was not only green for us, the lights were green to the cars turning right too. While I was approaching the pedestrian crossing at the corner of my eye I saw a car. A car that she didn’t see and a car that didn’t see the girl either. I knew I had act immediately or I’d see some bad things. Unfortunately my hands were in my pocket and I was at least 5 meters behind, so my only option was to shout. I shouted something like HEEEY! And miraculously both the car and the girl stopped at the very moment. She had her ears plugged in, and didn’t thanked me for saving her life so I assume she noticed the car exactly at the same time I was shouting, but anyway it was a close call. I wish I didn’t have my hands in my pocket and could’ve grabbed her so I would know I saved her and it wasn’t just blind luck. But I’m glad she didn’t get hurt and that’s all that matters.
It seems like today’s blog got a bit out of hand sorry for the home assignment. I hope y’all doing great!
Take care
Almos
