First Day in Warsaw

So, after we left Krakow things got exciting. Very exciting! I’ve never been further North than Krakow — in Europe, by car. We took the interstate-alike route S7, which is a two by two lane highway with 120 km/h speed limit. We only took a small detour to have lunch. It was a longish drive, because a) we don’t go faster than 100 km/h — polar bear friendly driving style — and b) because the interstate is unfinished between Krakow and Warsaw! To me, and I guess to many of you might sound very strange, but the capital city isn’t/wasn’t connected to all major cities by interstate! However Krakow’s been connected to Katowice by interstate for many years. That’s so surprising for me, as a Hungarian. Back in Hungary the capital city IS EVERYTHING, it’s connected with all major cities, and all the interstates run from the major cities to the capital city, and hardly any other big city is connected to another big city by interstate.

Anyway, after lunch we got on the interstate again, and continued our trip. Our timing wasn’t exactly perfect, because we got to the city around 1600, which meant, rush hour traffic. My GPS estimated 48 minute travel time for 16 km, so I decided we should stop at the closet shop and buy some food for the next days. We found a Lidly near, which had a very cool thing. It was located right next to the airport, planes were flying right above the store in every five minutes! It was so cool, we loved it!

After shopping we hit the road for once again that day. Our navigation directed us on a huge four by four lane stroad — I believe it’s the right technical term for a road between a road and a street. The stroad led us in between huge-huge buildings, and suddenly it claimed we have arrived! We have arrived to our new home! We talked to our landlord, she told us to call the security when we get to the front door of the building, they would let us in and we would find our keys on the table of our apartment. To make life easier for us our landlord sent us videos, about the front door, the elevator, the second front door and the third front door as well. And we had to fallow these videos like we were playing some egg hunt or pirate-y game. It was so exciting, remembering back now makes me have butterflies in my stomach. It was only when we got to the video in the elevator when we realized we were going to live on the 9th floor! 9th! I’m not good with hight, I was a bit worried if I was going to freak out. But surprisingly I didn’t haha. Although the first message I wrote my parents went like ‘we are so fucking far away from the ground!’ It was scary.

First the apartment looked a little small. Then I started bringing up the suitcases! When we had all six of them upstairs… Well the apartment was literally full. Space was a problem, but we knew we would have the time to stress about it after we were done with our trip. The other issue with the apartment was the wifi, which didn’t work, and it took twelve days for our landlord to deal with it. 12 days…

We quickly made our beds, and went a sleep, knowing our trip was just about to really began!

I’ll see you on the road to Vilnius tomorrow!

Take care,

Almos
