Mixed Day
Yesterday was a mixed day. It was mixed, because we did the usual stuff that we had done previously many-many times to stay alive; we went shopping… The other part of the mix was my new life when I was supposed to walk a decent amount of distance to reach my daily and monthly goal. However because we didn’t walk to the grocery store I had to do my walking later.
So, as I was saying we went shopping. However in the beginning I wasn’t sure how I wanted to get to the store. Obviously I would’ve preferred walking, but Sari wasn’t up for a 4 hour round trip… I didn’t buy monthly pass for public transportation to save money, so that wasn’t an option. I’ve tried to register a car sharing application previously, but it didn’t work, so that was also out. However, there was another car sharing company, who had hybrid and full electric cars! Using one of them would’ve been the second most environment friendly way to get to the store — first walking, than public transportation since those busses are commuting anyway, and than the electric/hybrid cars. In the name of environmentalism and the dedicated mindset of saving polar bears I downloaded the app and registered to be able to drive with “zero” emissions. I filled out all the necessary stuff, and then I received a message from them saying ‘it usually takes an hour to check your documents please wait.’ Bummer. We were already ready to leave… So, we did the probably less environmental friendly way to get there; we walked down to the garage and drove to the grocery store… And thanks God we did that, because after they checked if look anything alike now as my 17 years old me, they came up with a new criteria; I had to show them any bill I’ve payed, and have it signed with notary… Damn it’s hard to get in a hybrid/electric car in this country.
After we were done with the last big grocery shopping of our Erasmus — at least that’s what Sari thinks — we went home. My class was starting soonish, so we had to make some lunch really quick. I had some pirogies that we bought earlier and Sari had kinda the sameish thing, the Italian version of pirogi — ravioli maybe?
My class was okay, it was interesting-ish, but didn’t quite hit the action potential, so it was tough to pay attention. I believe if we were in a classroom I would have considered the class as interesting… But by now I think we all know how boring and useless online classes are. I can’t wait to have a normal class with faces, and noise, and disgusting smells.
When my class was over I put on my shoes and got down to business. I’ve started walking, to reach my daily minimum. I walked to the Palace of Culture and Science, I walked it around, then I walked to the Rondo ONZ and to the Rondo Dasinskiego — it’s written quite similar to this — and back home. It was almost an uneventful walk. I was at the last traffic lights waiting for it to turn green, when a group of middle aged couples stopped next to me. We were waiting together. The lights turned green, however before I stepped on the road I looked around and I saw a van approaching at a quite big speed. The couples were already on the road, so the van driver had to hit the breaks. He stopped the van just in time, but he was furious and honked his horn. As I took a closer look at the van it turned out to be a police van! Damn a police officer almost hit us because he almost ran a stop sign! The couples made sure the guys in the van knew it was green for us and red for them, but I didn’t want to be a negative impression on them I guess they were tired of working long hours and protecting the European Union’s border.
So, be kind to everyone you don’t know what they’ve been thru,
Take care
Almos
