Our Drive to the Baltics

 Well, as you probably can tell by the previous nostalgic blog, we didn’t spend too much time in Warsaw on our first day there, and it wasn’t any different on our second day in the city.

We got up bright and early because we had a long drive ahead of us — plus we only bought parking ticket till 1000. The travel time between Warsaw and Vilnius was supposed to take us a little bit more than six hours, in reality it took as way longer, mainly because we stopped at Biebrza National Park for an hour-ish hike and for a quick lunch. We stopped at a birdwatching place’s parking lot, and walked around 30 minutes to the place, where we found nothing, and the wind was too strong to my little gas stow, so we had to walk back and find some other place to deal with our empty stomachs. Not so far away, probably still in the national park we found a nice little dirt road, where we stopped and finally had our lunch. It’s funny because we hated that day for the detour of the birdwatching place because it was freaking hot, while nowadays we are usually thinking back like ‘we have never experienced good weather in Poland.’ But we did! Just sadly we didn’t appreciate it as much as we should have!

After lunch was ready we did a little siesta, set between the beautiful trees, inhaled beautifully clear air, enjoyed the breeze. It was magical! Traffic was hardly a thing, only every now and then did a car pass by, they usually checked us out real good, but I can’t blame them. We were having the time of our lives and it probably showed! It was a perfect spot, and a perfect lunch. I couldn’t have wished for anything better.

Although we enjoyed very much the forest, we had to get moving because we still had around 4 hours of driving ahead of us, and I was afraid, we were going to spend the rest of our lives on the border between Lithuania and Poland waiting to be checked. This statement going to be true for the upcoming nostalgic blogs, but as we drove Norther and Norther, the countryside had just gotten better and better! Huge trees were surrounding the highway, the number of cars had plummeted, it felt like we were driving to the end of the World, to a place where nobody had every been, and we felt like we didn’t want to leave that place. It was the most beautiful nature I have ever seen — this is also something I’ll be writing a lot! I was shocked how beautiful that part of Europe was. Absolutely speechlessly shocked.

Thankfully there were no police checks on our way, and it was a relief, because we hardly made it on time to Vilnius. Our host said she would let us in until 2300 and we got to the front gate at 2247. Our host was a very kind old lady, she spoke really little English, she asked us we we spoke any Lithuanian, which we didn’t — I know only one word that my friend who came on Erasmus to Pécs taught me: ‘pimpalas’ its meaning  I did not remember however I knew it as a fact that it was a word you do NOT say to an old lady when you meet her for the very first time.

Tomorrow I’ll take you to a trip in Vilnius, till then;

Take care,

Almos
