Praha Take Two

So, yesterday we went on a little sightseeing tour. A sightseeing tour of our on in the beating hippie heart of Warsaw; the Praha District.

Unfortunately I have to moderate myself a little bit here, because Praha is a really interesting part of Warsaw, it is also very hippie-alike however what it is not is beating. Unless you went to the wrong street and you are the one who’s getting beaten. For us the district looked more like a middle to low class people’s quarters, a place where crime is more visible than in the other parts of Warsaw — the higher number of police cars back me up on that. I’m also hundred percent positive that the Corona virus didn’t help this district either; after spending almost an our in the oldest bazar in the whole city, we were looking for a café or bar to have a drink and solve our bathroom issues. Before we left home Sari wrote a list of cafes that she thought was a good idea to check out. So when we got tired we went to the first one. It was closed. Then we went to the second one; it was also closed! We didn’t even found the third one, I think a hairdresser’s was in its place. The whole district — okay, the main road of the district — was completely shot. Nothing was opened there! And I’m sure that has a lot to do with the restrictions due to Covid-19, but I’m afraid the financial situation of the people living there is also an issue.

Although many people seemed to be having financial issues on the street there was also a huge contrast between the people. Behind the bazar was a wide street with 3-4 story buildings. When we left the bazar we were on the Western side of the street. There were two moms walking their child, holding an Iphone with three cameras — so it must’ve been a very expensive phone, a phone that most people don’t even use what it’s been designed for — meanwhile on the other side of the road there was a person, with hoodie on walking a round in a small circle, he was obviously not memorizing the pronunciation of the word ‘osteoporosis’ I guess he was hustling there, probably selling weed or whatever — that’s why I said more visible crime, because here in Wola district, people are more likely to cheat on taxes or whatever than selling weed, if you know what I mean. And really the strange thing was that a lady was basically waving her fancy expensive phone, while on the other side of the road was some kid doing some dirty things to make ends meet. Interesting.

Anyway when we finally gave up on supporting a small business we went to the mall to take a leak and buy some groceries. In the mall everything was different! People were wearing fancy clothes, where buying expensive shit, eating expensive shit. Businesses were booming. Like a total new world, didn’t really had anything common with the outside world. This mall had the biggest Carefour that we have ever seen! And according to our experiences Carefour is not the cheapest grocery store in the world!

The whole experience was really strange, and was a bit overwhelming.

*For the record I’d like to establish that I was referring to the neighborhood around Bazar Rozyckiego, and I was assuming all my statements on people’s financial statues based on my experiences. Although this neighborhood seemed to be poor there are districts on the Praha side that are wealthy like the one with the park called Balaton.

Now all that’s clear I’d like to wish you all the best,

Take care and have a good night,

Almos
