TrAm-endous Failure
So, yesterday. I got up early and started my day with a longish walk. I went to the Aldi nearby so my monthly mileage would increase nicely.
I think it was a first time ever — maybe only for me, maybe for mankind — there was no line, no queue, no waiting for the cashier! I don’t think I had ever experienced that, not in Lidl/Aldi not in any store! But definitely not in Aldi/Lidl. I believe these to grocery stores business model includes a point that makes the stores compulsory to have kilometer long lines in front of the cashiers. That must be a rule.
While I was walking home I saw two very interesting things. One was some cables dumped on the grass near the sidewalk. I collected them, and took the insulation off it and I’ll take it to a place where they collect metal and etc, so I’ll get a little money for it. Honestly I don’t really do it for the money, but if I left it there it would’ve taken the council at least 3 months to collect it, until them it would’ve been visual pollution after they would put it on a pick up truck and taken it to a dumpsite it would’ve rotted there for God only know how long. However if I take the unusable parts of and take the inside copper to a place where they pay me they will recycle the copper which means there will be less trash! And less trash is goood.
The other interesting thing was a group of very unfortunate tram passengers getting of the tram that had just broken down 10 minutes ago — yeah I don’t get it why they had to wait 10 minutes to be let out either. So, one tram broke down, which caused a huge tram traffic jam! First there was only one tram waiting for it to move. Then 2 other one has arrived. And it went like that till we reached 6 trams waiting in line to get over the orange roadblock. After 12 minutes of waiting a Dacia Duster arrived with sirens on — I believe if it would’ve been a Trabant it would’ve arrived in 5 minutes — they did things to the tram, however it was still not moving. In 3 minutes another huge vehicle arrived it was a Mercedes Unimog(?) with little wheels. It looked like a huge Mercedes truck on stabilizers — like it was only learning how to drive on two wheels. However soon those stabilizers turned out to be railway-wheels, the truck parked in front of the tram and eventually towed it away. I’ve never seen anything like that in my entire life so I was more than happy to sit on a bench — in mild temperatures around 7°C — for half an hour and watch the happenings. I think by this I did a favor to the childhood me, or to my inner child.
Although Warsaw has a pretty good public transportation system I bet those people who were trying to get to work on a Monday morning but had to wait an extra 30 minutes didn’t think the same. It’s interesting especially with the trams if one tram stops on the middle of the road the whole schedule is gone and from that point I’m not sure if we could say ‘Warsaw’s a good public transportation service.’ Even if in reality it has those people who had to get off the tram or those people who were late from work probably made up their minds and if we asked them they would not recommend taking a tram to work. And what I’m trying to say here is don’t judge on one experience because things are usually more complex than what we probably think.
Thank you for reading have a great day and take care!
