Winter Kampinoski

Yesterday we went to see an old friend of us. The Kampinos National Park. We have been there a few times before, but yesterday we went to the same exact place, where we went on our first hike in Poland. The whole experience was really strange.

We probably took the exact same route to the parking lot as we did, at our first time, I’m not 100% positive in the city-driving part, however, I am 110% positive we took the same route outside the city! We saw the same fields, the same houses, the same everything! There was only one difference, but that was a big one. When we were there last time it was early fall, however now it was winter, it was winter like you imagine winter; pretty cold, but also beautifully snowy. All the houses, all the fields were completely covered with snow, it was incredible beautiful.

As we got closer at one of the villages a car broke down in the middle of the road and driver was pushing the car. It wasn’t the best place to be broke down, so I pulled up behind him, and helped the dude push his car. There was a huge language barrier between us, and I suppose he wasn’t a professor of ancient latin nor greek, but he seemed kinda grateful for my help, and that was enough to me.

Eventually we took the last turn to the parking lot, I was curious and a bit nervous about the parking. Last time we were there it was also weekend, it was also a beautiful day, a beautiful season appropriate day like yesterday was, so I was expecting the parking lot full, and I was ready to driver around the parking lot till someone finally would’ve left. However, when we first saw the parking lot we couldn’t believe our eyes! Quite literally one was there! Only a few cars were left there, but there were rows of parking spaces completely empty! Thankfully not only the parking lot was empty. The whole national park seemed to be completely empty as well.

We took the same route as we did previously, it was also really interesting and strange, last time we were there all the trees had leaves, and now they were covered with snow! The most exciting thing we saw however were the swamps. They were completely frozen! We have never ever saw anything like that before!

The second most interesting thing we saw were the frozen water in the potholes. Some of the trail of our hike was on a service route to the authorities, and there were various size of potholes on the way, filled with water, that’s turned into ice, many times. We saw different layers of ice, we saw refrozen ones, we saw how the water has frozen between the soils. I was an out of world experience!

I’ll end this blog with pictures, I hope y’all doing great, take care.
