Back in Lithuania

After we got up in Riga we drove out of the city on some unusable roads which were two lane roads, then turned into four lane roads without changing size. It was pretty hectic, but we survived.

We continued our trip South till we reached Lithuania again. It was also great and sad to be back. It was great because we knew we had the option to eat something delicious, but it was sad because we knew our trip was about to end. In Lithuanian we drove to the Hill of Crosses memorial, which was two smallish hills absolutely covered with crosses. Allegedly it was a memorial for Polish and Lithuanian soldiers. It was really interesting, and a great experience , however they made us pay for parking in the middle of nowhere, and after we paid for parking at the emptiest part of the country we weren’t even allowed to use the bathroom for free. When I asked the boss-ish like lady if we could use the bathroom she said yes, for 50 Euro cent. She asked something like if I wanted to use the bathroom as well and I just told her ‘I rather wet myself.’ Seriously what the heck. We had to pay for the toilets… and the worst part is parking was quite expensive, and pretty far from the sight, meanwhile we could’ve just easily parked on the side of the road for free(!) and at least 800 meters closer than we stopped. It was really annoying, I felt like they were taking advantages from the ‘stupid tourist.’

From the Hill of Crosses we drove West to Klaipeda, where our accommodation was for the night. Before we got there, and the sun would’ve set we stopped at the beach North from Klaipeda, and it was one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. We had to park in the woods on the side of the road — it was payed parking from 1000 till 1800 I believe — from there we had to walk thru the forest till we got to a cliff of sand stone. From there the view was absolutely breathtaking. We just stood there for minutes and minutes, seeking in all the beautiful vibes and the salty air.

We found some stairs down to the beach, which was not as full as Siofok or Miami beach is in the summer, but definitely many people were there. We walked on the sand enjoyed the view for even a bit longer, till the sunset was over.

From there we drove into Klaipeda, got to our accommodation, and ran for something to eat. We got to the city at 2100, buy the time we were looking for something to eat almost everything was closed… We found a pizza place that only closed at 2200 and they were kind enough to make us some pizzas.

After linch we walked to the harbor, checked out the ghost which is climbing out of the water, then walked back to our apartment. It was a cold night with a tiring day, so it felt great to go to sleep early.

We will continue our journey tomorrow, to Warsaw!

Take care,

Almos
