We Got Pulled Over

 So, we left Certoka Ezers, filled up our thank and headed towards Estonia. Surprisingly, no police check was at the border, however we did found a place to pull over and take a picture with the Estonia sign.

From there it was smooth sailing thru beautiful forestlands till Tartu, where we booked a room in the local dorm. First I thought we messed up something with the GPS when we got there. The dorm, the people, the vibes… everything was exactly the same as it was in Pécs! — If you have Erasmus connection with Tartu, I would say go for it, because it looked like a city where I’d love to live. — The receptionist was super nice, she gave us the keys, but forgot to tell us which floor our room was at. So, we went to the elevator, it took it some 30 years to show up, then of course it was full, so we had to wait another century for it to come back… You know how it’s going in the dorms. Eventually we got in the elevator, and got off it on the third floor. We walked around, we couldn’t find our room… So we had to go back to the elevator, and try the floor above us. At the time I didn’t find it that funny, but as I look back in time we must’ve looked really comical, straggling with our suitcases, trying to get in the elevator. We eventually found our room and luckily our block mates were also kind — not like we had too much interaction with them.

The next day we explored the some of the city, we walked thru the river to the main square, checked the statue of a kissing couple. The whole city had a great atmosphere, people looked friendly, and I think some of them even smiled. After walking around we got back to the car and drove to the Estonian Nation Museum. Our drive took as thru of the suburbs, where we found cozy homes, nice gardens, and mountain-sized speed bums. The National Museum was a huge modern building, with a parking lot as big that we could easily got lost in it — in fact we kinda got lost in it.

From there our road still went North, our destination was Tallinn, but the next stop was the Baltic sea! We almost had an uneventful trip. There was only one police car in the whole Eastern part of the country and that police was going in completely different direction, however when we drove by each other they almost fall out the window as they were checking us out. At that point I knew we were about to be stopped. Soon I saw the blue light in my rearview mirror, it was the same Skoda Kodiaq that came the other way. They stopped us, asked for our papers, stared at the license plate for half a year then asked if we had any alcohol. I said yes we have a few beers in the trunk, I had to get out and show them all the four beers we had. I guess they weren’t expecting four beers, but honestly I have no idea what they were expecting. Is it illegal to transport alcohol in Estonia? They also asked us if we were going to Russia… When they eventually ran out of questions, they wished us a safe trip, and we said goodbye.

It seemed like a strange situation, I thought they only stopped us because we had a really foreign license plate, however that didn’t seemed to be the case, because they turned around and waited for the next car to pull it over.

I’ll continue our trip to the Baltic Sea tomorrow, till then;

Take care,

Almos
