Erasmus in Warsaw

  Yesterday nothing special happened. Just another lazy Tuesday, with one online class in the evening. There’s no point of telling you about this day, really. However, what I do wanna write about today is Polish beers! I think they are magnificent, one of the best beers I’ve ever had! And I’ve tried a new one! It’s called Perla, it’s made in Eastern Poland if my memory serves me right. I’ve probably already told you the story of how I bought that bottle of beer, but I think it’s such a great story I wanna make sure you know it, so here is how it went; we went to Auchan with Sári, and while she is searching for uninteresting stuff around the shop, I usually go to the beer section and wonder around there. It was the day before yesterday, when I got another recommendation for this beer called Perla. Although I usually believe locals, this time I had my doubts. How come that this is allegedly the best beer in Poland, and I’ve never came across its name? No restaurants, no fancy adver...

  Yesterday I went sightseeing. Or if I want to be completely honest, I got lost in the city. Bad. Sári asked me, whether I wanna meet her after her class, and I thought ‘hell why not?’ After she left for school, I started writing my blog, doing my morning routine, when suddenly it turned out it’s not morning anymore and I had to get going immediately! Sári’s class was 1 hour and 15 minutes on foot, and I had only 45 minutes before her class was over! It was pretty clear I wouldn’t make it on foot, so I started looking for options – yeah, I’ve decided I should avoid using any sort of unnecessary energy if that makes sense. I’ve been thinking about trying the city’s city bikes for a long time, and I figured I could make up 30 minutes on bike no problem. Soo, I downloaded the official app from my Appstore, it had one star out of five, great start – I was thinking. Yesterday was the 50 th day of my Erasmus I’ve shared with you! I cannot believe it’s been already 50 days since I’ve started blogging! We will get to yesterday’s happenings, but first I would like to do a quick recap what we have been thru in these 50 days. We’ve been thru my first day at the University of Warsaw , we’ve been to thru my first class at the University of Warsaw – it’s kinda funny how I kept using first day for at least 3 occasions regarding to the start of the semester, because every time I went to the uni for a meeting, a class I was expecting something like a huge semester opening gathering or whatever, even though I’ve never been to such thing at my home university. I guess I was waiting for something like our Orientation Day at PTE, where everyone who matters to an Erasmus student gets the opportunity to talk; the dean, the IRO, the local ESN Section they are all there!   Yesterday was a road trip day! As I told you earlier, we were planning to do a trip with Ola – Sári’s mentor – Sári is my girlfriend in case you didn’t know. We met Ola at 10am, hopped in the car and headed East, close to the border. Yes, we were headed to the Belarus border. I’m really curious about what’s going on there, I mean we see the news every day, and we have a rough idea, but you can almost never tell the truth based on reporters.   As much as I wanted to see personally what was going on there, I didn’t want to disturb the police unnecessarily by going there. Instead, we went to check out a pretty cool river, called river Bug! This river has beautiful bends, amazing huge banks on both sides- oh boy I wish it was summer! From there, we were headed to a place called Treblinka . Does that name ring a bell?   Yesterday was a quite busy day. We’ve visited at least 3 shops – if we don’t count our pitstop at Zabka for some hotdogs. Oh, yes after what feels like a year, we finally got some hotdogs! But let’s start our day in the beginning, shall we? I had some doubts about us going to Gdansk the day before yesterday, but somewhere deep in my hearth I still had hope. Well, yesterday morning that little hope was gone really quick when we got up and I checked the time; it was pretty late, almost 10 am I believe. So, we ditch the trip and came up with a new plan. We wanted to go to a Decathlon, and by something… I can’t even recall what we wanted to buy – I guess it must be something very important right? Anyway, we checked on Google how many Decathlons are in Warsaw, where those shops are, which are the ones we might’ve already been to; and we found one that we have never been to, but looked like a big store with buncha stuff in it – I’m not materialist, but in the end of the day that’s...

Yesterday we started our day planning. Planning our future. Haha okay not our future-future, I just wanted to sound dramatic. Honestly, I rather say we started playing with ideas, destinations of our future trip! We know it for sure, that we wanna go to Northern Poland, we know we wanna see Gdansk, and possibly Szczecin, but where next? There were mentioned some big city names thru our discussion like Berlin and Prague! I’m really curious about driving in Germany; the autobahn, the no speed limit straights, the super disciplined drivers, aand the super good quality fuel – or at least that’s what day say. Anyways I just wanna experience it and see if any of those idioms(?) are true. About the cities… To be completely honest I don’t really wanna go to Berlin, I’ve been there with my brother, and I feel like I could live a complete life without going back there again. Yesterday there was a lot going on. When I got up, I realized I’m having a class in the afternoon, that always needs preparation! This is the class – I’ve probably already told you about – where we have to read some papers, listen to some podcasts, and sometimes do some presentations. For yesterday’s class we were supposed to read a 21-page long paper(!) about Instagram’s effect on traveling, and to do a presentation of an Instagrammable place. The deadline was Wednesday morning. So, I got up on Wednesday morning, checked my emails to see what I had to do for class, and I was like ‘Oh, shit, we have a problem here…’ When I started reading it felt like a never-ending nightmare. I kinda understood what the text was about, but I wasn’t really sure about the whole thing… And I had to do a presentation on something I hardly even know about.
